This is it, the ultimate heretical text, Heroes with Statistics (horror of horror!). If you are a firm believer that RQIII is totally unable to handle Heroes, or that Heroes are divine untouchables that should not be touched as they are the realm of Greg Stafford and Greg alone then stop reading now and go back to my webpage and check something else out. If, on the other hand, you recognise the ability of RQIII then please continue and all comments are welcome!

Everyone on the Digest is right, in most cases throw the dice just for the sound effects, except in certain special cases the Hero will most likely make mince meat of the characters. It is only when the characters become a potential threat, or the Hero becomes neccessary as a Hero or Villain, that stats make sense. I used to stand in awe at one of my GM's NPC's as he could do just about anything. Nowadays, being a rune lord character, I grow tired of other players fueling my GM's ego by praising his NPC -- in the end he is just a mortal. This is the good thing about RQ, everything can be quantified.

The following apply to reading the stats:

All statistics in brackets are the scores of the Hero with all magic cast, as listed under "spells cast".

In the case of sorcery attribute modifiers are included in skills, e.g. if a character has STR 18(28) due to Boost STR Intensity 10 then the score of 28 will be used to calculate manipulation modifier and manipulation skills.

In the case of hit locations, armour comes first, hit points second.

In language the first number is the chance to speak, the second is the chance to read. if only one number is given the character can only speak the language.

Under special items, only items of note are listed -- money, matrixes, personal effects etc... are ignored.

Only notable Vows and Taboos are given, not minor ones.

All Rune Spells are re-usable unless otherwise noted. Some Heros have access to huge resevoirs of reusable Rune Magic a.k.a. Ralzakark from Dorastor:Land of Doom.

Where an item is said to be "powered" it means that the success level rolled is increased by one step i.e. a powered sword that specials actually criticals. A powered axe that misses actually hits, and a critical becomes a supercritical. Fumbles are as normal.

HeroQuesting Powers: May turn into an 8m Selune or a 6m Shade at will. may also use the Conceal spell at will with no mp cost or chance of failure. Discorporate at will on DEX SR. Knows the rites to travel to the Red Moon, the Blue Moon and summon the Bat Assassins. Utterly immune to light magic. She is immortal - if slain she returns as a bolt of blue from the sky 2d6 days later, landing near Blue Moon Plateau. Can summon the Sedenyic Storm - for every 100 mps spent (which can be donated from worshippers), the storm measures 1 km in radius. It is a reddish, blueish, black storm that spews forth selunes and moonbeams. She is in continual mental link with ALL Annilla worshipprs, receving everything they see (but unable to send any messages or such). Is in communion with Lord Lurker in Shadows - this gives her access to a resevoir of 500 mos and allows her to travel instantly to Hell if within a temple to a Darkness deity. She can summon her husband forth if in a temple to Kyger Litor, Subere, Nakala or Dehor.

Special Items: Her ornate mask. This allows her to promote certain emotion through the mask. Effectively she can cast Fear, Seduce and Precision Orate at will. The mask is inscribed with various spirit bindings and matrices. It returns to her beckoning and allows her to breath underwater. She carries three magical feathers, the first allows her to fly at move 12, the second gives her a permanent Speak With Birds and the last allows her to turn into a SIZ 50 eagle at will. She carries a magic spear that, upon command, magically summons her consorts to her. She owns an amulet that grants her the spells Incarnate Ancestor(2) x3, Spirit Guardian 5, Spirit Melding(2) x3 and Summon Ancestor x10. It generates a permanent Axis Mundi around it. All spells regenerate on Godsday in Death Week. Set into it is a POW 6 spell enhancing crystal.
HeroQuesting Powers: Can call upon various powers of Dark Thaumaturgy. Not only is she a master of normal alchemy, she can call upon her powers for other purposes such as cirses, blessings, weather control and cures although they take 1-2 weeks to cast. She can permanently Speak with Horses and can command any Grazer horse at will, and command any non-Grazer horse with a magic points versus magic points. She can tell movements of any large forces or powerful individuals in her lands.She can also draw upon the magic points sacrificed to her on La-Ungariants holy days.

Also has a POW 14 crystal which is a drop of Nakala's blood -- it renders him immune to all darkness orientated magic unless her consiously allows it to be cast upon him. Two enchanted iron greatswords. The first is from Arkat HeroQuesters treasury, it is Powered, binds his familiar and inflicts double damage to all chaos. The second is Lignfryfedyke and is Orlanthi. It has a matrix for Lightning 10 which refills at dawn every morning. A lock of Dendara's Hair. It allows him to woo any normal woman and is a Bless Crops 14 matrix. His armour was minted in Heaven by Pole Star himself. It is platemail, has increased armour points and only weighs 6.0 ENC. Carries an enchatned iron morning star, target shield and often carries an iron lance when he accompanies his Demon Steed.
HeroQuesting Powers: He won his Demon Steed on his HeroQuests. He plundered his Darksense, and much of his knowledge, from the Mother of All Trolls in Hell. He is immortal and does not age, he can return from Hell upon his death. He was taught by Humakt in his Lodge -- not only does he have increased skills but he can wield a 2H sword in each hand, giving him an extra attack per round.

Special Items: Carries a Powered dragonbone klanth, gami each with a POW 25 bound magic spirit that know Heal 10. The weapon have high ap's and penetrate all non-divine magic armour. Carries 10 samarin which explode mid-flight into mini-fireballs causing 3d10 damage. Has access to the Dragon's Eye -- this is a method to speak to, and use the powers of, an Ancestral Dragon. It grants almost omnipotent divinationary powers, including brief glimpses of the future. It gives the Inhuman King unlimited Divine Intervention effects within his own cities and gives him great communion with Dragonkind. He can bind defeated spirits to it, even gods. It allows easy access to HeroQuesting and also has a huge resevoir of magic points he can use. Due to it's nature and size, he never carries it but is always in contact with it.
HeroQuesting Powers: Immortal. Can see all planes of existence and interact with them. If he does nothing for one round he can summon forth a Dream Dragon. Can command and converse with True Dragons. At extreme personal spiritual cost he can turn into a True Dragon.
